SafeWork NSW has identified that the residential construction sector in the Hunter is one of the largest employment sectors in the region. This contributes to a yearly average of 730 workers’ compensation claims, costing approximately $7,500,000 per year. Statistics indicate that 50 percent of injuries were soft tissue injuries, lacerations and contusions predominately to hands, eyes, ears, ankles and knees.

TradieSafe is a SafeWork NSW initiative aiming to reduce the amount of incidents in these workplaces. SafeWork NSW will be carrying out visits on residential construction projects to identify and address safety risks.TradieSafe will be focusing on the following workplace safety risks during visits:

  • falls from heights
  • house keeping
  • personal protective equipment
  • site security.
