Architectural designed customer-built projects often demand walls that exceed standard height walls, presenting unique challenges in maintaining straightness and stability. It can become a large additional job to straighten a wall prior to install external cladding and internal lining, when working with traditional frame timbers.
Smart10 LVL is a timber framing system primarily for use as studs and plates, it is engineered to meet all the requirements of MPG10 pine applications. Smart10 creates a straight frame, reducing the need for straightening frames leading to a smoother workflow and better results for your clients.

Framing Options for Builders:
Durability and exposure to moisture:
- Smart10 LVL, like all timber and LVL products, is hygroscopic, which means it has an affinity for water
- Store Smart10 LVL flat on a hard, dry surface and keep covered with waterproof material that allows bundles to "breathe"
- Smart10 LVL is supplied with a short-term construction water repellent however once framed into a structure may be exposed to the weather for a limited time, BUT it may exhibit some effects of this exposure such as swelling and checking (especially at cut ends)
- Smart10 LVL frames should be enclosed as quickly as reasonably practical, or installed during extended periods of dry weather, to prevent swelling of the LVL sufficient to generate lateral displacement in frames and around openings
- Consider a solid timber bottom, top and ribbon plate to minimise plate swelling, should heavy rain be forecast during the build process
- Consider leaving end noggings out of wall frames and add later at the time of lining
- The Smart10 design guide contains all the relevant information and span tables required by your builders and can be obtained freely from the Tilling website @ Smart10 LVL - Tilling Timber
