Now that you know how to speak the language of modern with your clients. When talking about the external design of their homes, we want to give you a few more tips and tricks in pulling off the client’s design aspirations to the inside of their homes.

While doors and door furnishing might be viewed as just functional pieces inside a home, doors can say a lot about a space, it is the first and the last thing you see when entering and exiting a room. Your client will benefit from paying attention to the type of doors and door handles they choose. More than using them to move from one room to the next, doors can help enhance the nterior space and deliver on the complete modern look.

Modern Coastal

Derived from its name, modern coastal is a mix of modern design and the coastal vibe. This look aims to deliver on the beach atmosphere without the obvious elements of a beach home (think less surf boards and fewer beach photos).

The modern coastal look is very close to a Hamptons look, which means that the doors for these two looks will be similar. To achieve the modern coastal look you will want to suggest doors that have panels or trimmings. If your client wants to make a statement at the entrance a pair of French doors will give the feel of a large entrance, alternatively, side lights panels on either side of the door will also deliver that coastal vibe.

Scandi Barn

Scandi Barn or the modern farmhouse has a minimalistic approach to modern design. Key elements that highlight a scandi barn look are big open spaces (open plan living) and big windows to let the outside in. Clean lines inside allow for the attention to be drawn to the exterior.

Minimalism is a core design guide in achieving the Scandi barn look, so to create character designers rely on adding contrast to the space. The easiest way to complete this look is by installing barn-style doors, but if your client wants hinged doors, then recommend doors with inset panels, alternatively, use natural finish on the doors (e.g. Blonde oak, veneers) For rooms where contrast already exists through the wall design, recommend simple doors with no feature so that the doors will allow the walls to shine.
