Turpentine hardwood decking a great choice for the tough Australian climate. It’s perfect for large or small decks along with many other outdoor applications including pool surrounds, gardens, bridges, verandahs, landscaping and more.

As one of Australia’s premium native hardwoods, turpentine has a fine texture and an often interlocked grain with little to no gum vein present, making it a highly sought after, versatile and visually attractive timber. It can be known to be of a more unstable nature, compared to say merbau or blackbutt, so pre-oiling the decking would be recommended on all faces and edges prior to installation. 

Grown in the coastal forests from southern New South Wales to far north Queensland, the native colour palette of turpentine ranges from a beautiful deep chocolate, reddish-brown to deep red colouring, with sapwood even exhibiting creamy tones. The texture of this timber is fine to medium.

Turpentine is extremely hardy, with an above ground life expectancy in excess of 40 years, possessing a high natural resistance to termites and fungal rot. It also exhibits a natural resistance to marine borers, and so is used extensively as marine pilings throughout Australia.
