We're excited to announce an expansion in our timber decking offerings at NHS, and this time, we're introducing a game-changer – pre-oiled timber decking. In this article, we'll look into what pre-oiled timber decking is, its advantages, and how it can save you precious time on your projects.
What is Pre-Oiled Timber Decking?
Pre-oiled timber decking is exactly what it sounds like – timber decking that comes with a protective oil coating applied before it reaches your site. This pre-treatment offers numerous benefits that can make a real difference in the lifespan and appearance of the decking.
Benefits of Pre-Oiled Timber Decking
360° Protection
Minimised Moisture Absorption: The pre-oiling process significantly reduces moisture absorption, contributing to a longer life for the timber.
Reduced Likelihood of Warping, Cupping, or Splitting: With moisture in check, the chances of your timber warping, cupping, or splitting are greatly diminished.
Tannins Are Locked In: The natural tannins in the timber are locked into the wood, reducing unwanted discoloration or staining.
On-site Coating Protects Top Surface Only: No need to worry about multiple layers – the pre-oiled decking comes ready with a protective coating on the surface.
Saves Time
No Need to Weather Timber: Unlike untreated timber, pre-oiled decking eliminates the need to weather the wood. Just clean and coat!
Less Prep Means Less Time On-site: Streamline your workflow with less preparation time, allowing you to finish your projects faster and move on to the next one.

Caring for Pre-Oiled Timber Decking:
Pre-oiled timber decking comes pre-oiled, however, coating is still required after installation.
Ensuring the longevity of your pre-oiled timber decking is simple with these two steps:
Clean: Before applying any coating, make sure the surface is clean. If needed, use Intergrain® UltraPrep™ Timber Cleaner for a thorough scrub.
Coat: Once dry, apply two coats of your chosen oil-based or water-based finish. Avoid mineral oil-based finishes for optimal results.
IMPORTANT: Cutek is not warranted on pre-oiled timber decking.
For long-term protection
Conduct regular maintenance inspections to ensure the coating is repelling water, and the finish is in sound condition.
If maintenance is required, thoroughly scrub with Intergrain® UltraPrep™ Timber Cleaner and apply a fresh coat of finish.
By choosing pre-oiled timber decking from NHS, you're not just getting a product – you're investing in efficiency, durability and a smoother construction process.
