Product Description

Shou Sugi Ban, also known as Yakisugi, derives from an ancient Japanese exterior cladding treatment used to preserve timber by charring it with fire. A precision milled profile, Shou Sugi Ban architectural cladding is an aesthetically pleasing yet durable façade option that can be installed horizontally or vertically to meet the architectural scheme of the building. It’s an all-inclusive solution for any exterior wall, offering not just the charred timber cladding but a selection of powdercoated aluminium trims to deliver a contemporary finish and watertight result.

The timber species selected to manufacture this variation of Shou Sugi Ban is BAL29 Australian hardwood, offering a high level of fire resistance, a perfect fit for harsh Australian conditions. Ethically sourced and processed, Shou Sugi Ban has little to no carbon footprint, so it’s an environmentally responsible choice. Alternatively, durable callitris glaucophylla (or white cypress pine) and Australian hardwoods are also available.

Exploiting a modernised Shou Sugi Ban technique, the process evenly chars the face of the board before it’s cooled and finished to a “straight charred” effect, removing the heavily charred top layer to reveal a subtle textured surface that accentuates the blackened grain and features of the timber. The fire treatment also provides an additional barrier of protection against insect attack and decay, with each board then being pre-oiled with Cutek CD50 Double Black Ash before leaving the factory – so despite appearances, this refined architectural cladding is made to last.

Shou Sugi Ban cladding boards are end matched, so there is no need to join them over a stud – aside from being convenient, this can save waste and therefore costs. The end matching system features a micro edge bevel to encourage water to drain away from the join, and in combination with a bead of sealant, ensures a watertight connection.
