Fast facts of Permeable Membrane

The purpose of permeable membranes

The National Construction Code (NCC) has outlined the new Deemed to Satisfy (DTS) provisions for the use of pliable building membranes.

The pliable membranes are designed to help manage condensation and moisture to escape the building envelope, in short, they keep water out and allow water vapour to escape the inside of the home.

Over time condensation can cause both major and minor issues to the buildings, when water vapour is unable to escape the wall cavity moulds and spores can develop within the damp timber framing which has the potential to create unhealthy living environments.

While the Hunter Valley is classified under Climate Zone 5: warm and temperate, both James Hardie and Weathertex require pliable membrane to be installed under their products to achieve a warranty.

Thermakraft watergate plus

Watergate Plus is a two-layer laminated pliable building membrane combining a polyester non-woven layer with a high-quality vapour permeable film. Thermakraft is the only wrap manufacturer in Australia with Codemark Certification, Branz Appraised, and ISO9001 Accreditation.

The product is simply fixed to timber framing using construction staples or steel frame and is made to stretch around corners providing a tight fit and reducing the risk of staple tear. It will provide temporary weather protection during construction. (Max 60 Days).

It is available in two sizes 1370m x 36m (50m2) or 2740mm x 30m (82m2) and has NHS’s logo printed on it. We can have it printed with your business with a minimun order of 30 rolls. It can be installed with confidence behind all major cladding manufacturers profiles without voiding the warranty for systems like: James Hardie, Weathertex, and USG Boral's OutRWall System.
